Gastric carcinoma does not only include adenocarcinoma or signet ring carcinoma. Gastric adenocarcinomas can be further  subdivided into Early Gastric carcinoma (EGC) limited to the mucosa and submucosa and Advanced Gastric carcinoma (AGC) go beyond the submucosa. Size of the tumor and depth of invasion are important prognostic indicators of EGC. Other carcinomas that could be primary are squamous, adenosquamous, lymphoepithelial carcinoma etc. Lymphomas like MALT lymphomas, high grade lymphomas and low grade lymphomas can also be primary gastrointestinal or involve primarily the stomach.
